The third issue of this cute personal mini zine. It has Emma’s personal views on subject like punk, feminism, the girls’ “roles” inside the punk scene and such. It also has some more personal writing, like the aftermath of a break up and finding and expanding your beliefs, some DIY tutorials (how to make a bug out of an old pair of trousers and stencils), a nice recipe and more. Another plus is Emma’s great little drawings and writing style. This is a very nice read afterall. Emma has recently started a zine distro, check it out at: http://fist-distro.livejournal.com/

The Punk zine history in Greece
Greece does not have a long history on zines, let alone zines on punk music. Although you can find thousands of political and anarchist pamphlets and newspapers, some of them published for more than a decade or two, only a few zines managed to publish more than 3 or 4 issues through their lifetime.During the 80’s when the punk movement first appeared in Greece many fanzines were released. They were mostly created by young punks who needed to express themselves and their severalty over other music fans. Here are some of best known zines of the 80’s:
“Στις σκιές του B-23″ [In the shadows of B-23], first issue was released in 1988 after the merge of the two zines “Σκιές” [Shadows] (a new-wave zine, first issue in 1985) and “B-23″ (a punk/hardcore zine, first issue in 1986). 18 issues were released and also 3 7″ and 2 LP’s which accompanied some of the issues. “Bρωμιά” [Dirtiness] from the small city of Ptolemaida was also a long lived zine, although not an exclusively-punk zine, it had many articles and interviews on bands of that time. The first issue was released in 1985. Likewise, although not an exclusively-punk zine, “Rolling Under” from Thessalonica was another long- lived zine. Other zines of this era are “Πανικός” [Panic], “Decapitated”, first issue in 1988 and it was mostly about hardcore, thrash, noise and experimental music, “Κίτρινος Τύπος” [Yellow Press] which was created by the band Panx Romana and was included on their second LP (released in 1989). A new issue was published along with every release of the band. Also “Παπάρι” [Dick] with at least 8 issues which was later renamed to “Discordia” and finally “Stress” from Livadia with a single issue in 1989.
ABC No Rio: Founders Era Artifacts
I believe this is one of the zines of the ABC No Rio zine series, regarding of course the famous social center in New York. This one is about the foundation of the place. It’s the story of some artists back in 1979 that wanted to find a home for their art and squatted a building without knowing that this would be the birth of one of the most famous and long time lived art/punk/social center ever. It describes the first days of the squatting and the efforts of the city council and the police to shut it down. It is also about how they managed to get the press and the community on their side and how this led the city giving a building to the squatters. It also describes some of the events that took place after its establishment and the struggling to make the local community participate. Apart from the story, the zine gives you a great understanding on the political/social picture of that time and place and makes you see that this wasn’t just a art movement but also a political expression.
It can be found at various distros, like Microcosm Publishing and others. If you can’t find it, e-mail me.

This zine counts more or less 22 years of life. It was started by two friends in Southampton, UK and it is still based there and written by the same people (still friends as they say). It covers mostly the UK punk and hardcore scene and more particular the south cost scene. In this issue you will find interviews with Paint It Black, Dirty Love, The Black Veins, The Fire Still Burns, Varukers and Abandon Ship. Also a thorough report of Pilger/Paint it Black 2005 tour, Wasted 2005 fest report, album and zine reviews and shitloads of other texts and writings. SD is also a label/distro. Check their website for the awesome stuff they carry.

This is the forth issue of Emma’s mini zine or shall I say the “starting 2006″ issue? This one is different than the previous issues. It is a “to do” list for 2006. Things like watching less tv, start a band and travel; put together in Emma’s special way, with cute drawings and short texts. It is a very nice little reading. I personal believe that new year resolutions rarely work but it is actually a good way to put new goals in your life. And by the end of the year if you have actually succeeded even few of them, it’s a success.
