Immigrant Zine #3

Immigrant Zine #3The guys of immi zine once again did a great job. They changed into A4 (unfortunately I am a big fan of A5) and included more articles in greek than on the previous issues (half of it is in greek and half of it in english now) and more personal articles. Part of the zine is still focused on music. You will find interviews with Smalltown, No Respect and Zegota, a mini tour report of 925, a Latvian scene report and a bunch of music, gig and zine reviews. Plus an article on diy ethics, a report straight from the upraised suburbs of paris and many more on social/political issues. Download the first two issues from their website and support their effort.

Chronicles of a Cheating Heart #2

Chronicles of a Cheating Heart #2 zineIn this issue, Kitty Chronic offers a retrospective of 2005 through a social and personal standpoint. She debates whether enemies of freedom such as fascists deserve to have freedom of speech but doesn’t manage to find an answer, finds the courage to talk about her eating disorder and makes a list of her favourite things. She writes about what punk means to her and other random stuff. It’s all handwritten, which makes it more personal also sometimes a pain to read. Write to her. She will be more than happy to get your thoughts. She also has a band, check them out! http://uk.geocities.com/kittychronic/

Bite The Hand That Feeds The Poisoned Food #2

DIY Hardcore punk, Crust, Thrash, Anarcho, Political/Personal writing. That is written on the cover and that is exactly what it is. A fucking amazing PUNK zine. Where should I start? An interview on Magdie collective/squat in Dublin, a Copenhagen scene report, interviews with The Dagda, Die Kreuzen, and Conor Dervin (a guy who’s putting up gigs in ireland, GGI festival and other punk stuff). There is also a “10 reasons I hate cops” article, 7 pages long, a great travel diary of his quests around europe (a lot of drinking, smoking, hitchhiking included, you have been warned) and much more personal writing, some criticism on the punk scene and its members, politics, reviews and everything else a crust punk zine should have. The layout is great, typical crusty, lots of skulls and bones in the cover, cool pictures and most importantly.. black color everywhere!! This is pretty old but you can still find it in some distros. Try to get it. Cormy, the guys who’s doing it also plays in the bands Nuclear Death Terror (crust) and The Assassinators (melodic punk rock). Both will blow your mind off. Exotica Subterranea (Exotic Underground)

exotica subterranea zineThis is an issue of Exotic Underground but since it is about South America it is called Exotica Subterranea. This is a very good introduction to the Latin America punk scene. It has an interview with Octavio and Jose, two random guys, one from Mexico and the other from Colombia, who both lived in the United States. They talk about their countries, why and how they went to the states, why people from latin america migrate to there, the problems they have etc. It’s a very interesting interview on a subject that most of us europeans and i’m sure most americans do not really know much about. Apart from that there is a travel diary from the author’s trip to Colombia. People he met, places he have seen, gigs he went to etc. An interview giving some light on the oi scene in Colombia and finally a number of record and zine reviews from latin america. As I said this this is a great intro to latin american punk. Besides the zine, Fred with his label and distro is releasing and distributing records by bands from all over the world. You should also check his book Discography of Eastern European punk music 1977-1999 and the online Discography of Asian punk music.

Waterintobeer #10

Waterintobeer #10 zinePretty old (November 2004), but still great, from Leeds, UK I had it on my shelf for a couple of weeks prior to my trip to the Manchester zinefest, on the train to which I managed to read this. All of it? Not all of it. How can you read an 80 page heavy text zine in a few hours? Absolutely great stuff. From lightweight texts and stories (like love vs. sex) to band interviews (Endstand and others), tour reports (Hero Dishonest in Russia/Belarus tour and others) and a great amount of gig, music, zine, book and dvd reviews.
